A 208-bed, community, not-for-profit general acute care hospital, South Coast Medical Center provides patient care services ranging from critical care, same-day surgery, maternity services, sub-acute care and 24-hour emergency services to chemical dependency, psychiatric service, eating disorder treatment, radiation oncology and extensive rehabilitation services. In addition, we also provide free physician referral services and a health resource center.

The University of California, Irvine (UCI) Medical Center is the only university hospital in Orange County, offering a full scope of acute- and general-care services, with more than 300 specialty physicians and 50 primary care doctors. Perinatologists are available for the expert management of high-risk pregnancies as is the most sophisticated neonatal unit in the county to care for critically ill newborns. UCI Medical Center houses a 24-hour Emergency department and is designated as a Level 1 Trauma Center -- the only one in Orange County and the most comprehensive for the treatment of serious, life-threatening injuries.

The medical center also houses a neuropsychiatric center, regional burn center and mental retardation research center. Internationally respected physicians and a talented team of medical professionals are affiliated with the medical center's bone marrow, kidney and liver transplant programs. The UCI/UCLA Liver Transplant program is the only program in Orange County that utilizes the ‘split liver’ concept, i.e., using one donor liver for two or more patients when appropriate.
