Essentially, TomoTherapy allows the surgeon direct individual radiation beams to difficult-to-reach tumors. This technology helps to prevent healthy tissue from being damaged during a procedure.
Before a TomoTherapy treatment, Dr. Duma will use 3D images to locate the tumor and any potential areas of the brain that may be at risk during surgery. At this point the doctor will decide how much radiation is necessary. With that information the TomoTherapy Hi-Art System helps to determine the correct position, intensity of radiation, and pattern needed to provide the treatment Dr. Duma has approved.

The main benefit of TomoTherapy is its ability to maximize treatment with fewer side effects. Additionally, TomoTherapy treatments are faster than other intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT).
